About Me

Hey! My name is Carys. I’m a pretty average person and simply just enjoying my time on this little blue planet.

I have been a Marine Spatial Planning intern at the Alfred-Wegener-Institut and this summer I will pick up another research intern position with the Sea Watch Foundation. I hold a degree in Marine Biology & Oceanography from the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University.

Sometimes, it’s hard to keep up to date and in touch with what is going on around us. Especially when you do try but cannot make sense of the words you are reading. Trust me, I’ve been there… most of the time I’m still there *face palm*.

So, I hope to explain the science across this site in a non-complicated way which encourages the engagement of the public. I believe that science should be accessible to anyone who has an interest in it. We all have to start somewhere and the more involved we feel and the more we educate ourselves and others about our changing oceans and marine ecosystems, the more likely it is that we will also start to develop a passion for our oceans as big as Dr. Sylvia Earle’s…. or just mine and Moana’s, that’s totally cool too.

So, take a deep breath, and go out there and make a difference on our beautiful blue planet. You and nothing you say or do is ever too small to make an impact on something or someone; it all adds up to something great in the end.
